oil pastels, gesso, acrylic paint, craft tissue

The base is craft tissue from my nephew’s first birthday recycled and layered with black gesso, oil pastels, and acrylic paint on claybord. What do you see? What do you feel? This piece was commissioned by Nexus Community Partner for their office redesign.

This piece he swirled by hand. Nexus Community Partners commissioned this piece for the BCLI program cohort 8 graduates. I created one giant, unique energy art piece, then cut it into 18 individual sections-- one for each graduating cohort member, as shown in the next slide.

This piece is a print of the original he made, which still is in process. In continuation of slide 3, this is the final view of all 18 pieces together. This larger-piece-cutting style into accessible smaller pieces isn't just for commission work.

Create, Prep, and Perform a joyful, interactive art piece which was painted with oil pestles on a panel claybord. Before participants arrived at the event, prepped the panel claybord by pouring black gesso and using my fingers to make a sporadic swirl pattern. Once dried, it provides a texture for the oil pastels to grab.

During the event, participants were asked to use their bodies to communicate their responses to the following question., “How does MLK Jr inspire you to use radical joy to impact racial justice?” I used different colors to represent the children's and adult’s responses.
